Pastor Terry Defoe
Emeritus Clergy, Lutheran Church – Canada
Terry Defoe has served Lutheran congregations in Canada’s three Western provinces since 1982. Educated at Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British Columbia (BA, Sociology, 1978), Lutheran Theological Seminary, Saskatoon Saskatchewan (M.Div., 1982), and the Open Learning University, Burnaby British Columbia (BA, Psychology, 2003). He has served as a chaplain at the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University. He has been interested in the science / faith dialogue for more than 30 years. In 2018, he published Evolving Certainties: Resolving Conflict at the Intersection of Faith and Science which received positive reviews from scientists affiliated with the BioLogos Association as well as the American Scientific Affiliation (ASA). Since his retirement, he has focused on his writing, publishing articles on academia.edu. as well as his denomination’s national publication and an online ASA journal, God and Nature. A lifelong evangelical, Pastor Defoe is interested in the radical politicization that has been occurring among many of its members.
